When summer holidays approach and long days are spent in the sun, please spare a thought for your hair! Just like your skin, your hair can be damaged very easily by too much exposure to the sun, chlorine and salt water.
Follow these simple steps from Lee, our salon manager at Blaze, to ensure your hair stays in great condition this summer:
Habits tend to change when you are on holiday, you may find yourself washing your hair more than usual, so review the products you are using. Ensure they are designed for frequent washing and contain UV protectors. Try the Brocato Splassh range for daily washing.
Damage limitation is a must with coloured hair, so ensure that your products contain sunscreens which will help to protect your hair from the punishing UV rays. Paul Mitchell makes a great product called Lock In Spray 250ml £10.75 which will help to protect your hair and KMS have an excellent new product called Colour Protect Spray which is perfect for popping on your locks when you are by the pool or sea.
Before you take the plunge, wet your har with normal water. Your hair is like a sponge and by pre-wetting your hair you will prevent it from being able to soak up more water, from the pool or sea, which is very dehydrating for your hair, thus helping it from drying out so much with the seasalts and chemicals.
Some clients tell us how they love that "sun-kissed" look which is the result of over exposure to the sun, and many do not want to use sun-blockers on their hair. My advice is that your hair will still lighten through the sunscreen products and more importantly the products will prevent your hair from looking and feeling like straw.
Give your hair a real treat and apply a deep conditioning treatment to damp hair, comb back and secure. Leave this on for up to an hour - just look and feel the difference!
And finally....think of your hair as you would of your skin. Use the right products with UV filters, use plenty of moisturizing products and cover up - one of the best things you can get is a hat to protect your hair!
Remember we are always here for any hair advice you may require so please come in and see us with any queries you may have, just pop into the salon and Natalie or Jackie will find someone for you to speak to.
I hope you all have a really enjoyable summer and I look forward to seeing you in the salon soon - don't forget 11 Park Street from the 8th JUNE 2010!
